McKenzie, previously best known for his work on the critically acclaimed musical comedy TV show Flight of the Conchords, wrote the Academy award-winning song Man or Muppet for James Bobin’s 2011 film. The movie, co-written by and starring Jason Segel, successfully reunited Kermit, Miss Piggy, Fozzie Bear et al on the big screen for the first time since 1999′s The Adventures of Elmo in Grouchland. Bobin’s film took more than $150m at the worldwide box office and was highly acclaimed by critics.
Collider’s report also reveals that the Muppets sequel will be shot in and around London and at Pinewood Studios from late January until April. It is said to be set in Europe. Segel has previously said he will not be returning for the followup, though it is thought he may make a cameo. Bobin returns to the director’s chair and Nicholas Stoller, who wrote the first film with Segel, will also work on the sequel.
As far as casting goes, it is thought that Christoph Waltz will play an Interpol inspector, and there may be at least one new Muppet.
